Dynamic Perceptions: Ready to take listeners on an hour and a half joy ride through the experiences of another.
On August 15, 2010 Paul Jackino released an album featuring 17 of his self produced songs and titled the experience Dynamic Perceptions.
The album opens with the track “Own Little World” giving the listener an introduction to Jackino's art. The song is a great place to start for first time listeners. However, Track 2 “Looking for Love” one of the few songs on the album with Jackino's vocals, pulls the listener away from the instrumental nature of the album.
I'd recommend skipping Track 2 during the first listen and moving onto either Track 3 or even better Track 4 “Devira”. If you felt yourself pulled away by Track 2 then Track 3 “At the Beach” may successfully save the day by pulling you back in.
For those listeners who'd like to start out the album with vocals a good place to start is with Track 10 “Sensitive Heart's Lullaby”. The majority of the song focuses on experiencing the instrumental aspect of Jackino's talent while his vocals compliment the song by moving the story forward.
Among my favorites on the album are Track 13 “Winter 2005, Track 16 “Happiness” and Track 17 “Stargazing”. Each song is a rush of positive influence topped with hints of hope and washed down gently with a touch of weightlessness.
Track 15 “Tropical Crush” is great song that I felt I had to mention considering it's unique ability to transport you straight onto a sandy beach with blue water complete with coconut drinks and a clear sunny sky. If you're in dire need of a vacation close your eyes, listen to this song and prepare for the ride.
17 songs by a completely new artist can be a lot to take in especially considering the length of each song. The shortest song is 3 minutes 44 seconds and the longest is 7 minutes 42 seconds. Not to say that the alum suffers from the length. In fact, I believe it benefits from it.
The album can be experienced in many different ways. It is up to the listener to choose how they want to incorporate the experience into their life. One could use the experience as background noise while doing homework, yoga, a long car ride or even while getting intimate. Ultimately the experience serves as a great soundtrack for any emotional journey.
I've actually found myself playing with the delivery of the songs by creating playlists from the album. There is enough material on the album to have a unique experience through each playlist. For first time listeners I'd recommend listening in the following order:
Track 1: “Own Little World”
Track 16: “Happiness”
Track 4: “Devira”
Track 9: “High”
Track 5: “Emotion”
Track 14: “Kerbi”
Track 7: “Orchard Avenue”
Track 11: “When the Leaves Turn Red”
Track 13: “Winter 2005”
Track 17: “Stargazing”
The reason I love this order stems from the fact that each song tells a story and takes the listener on a journey through the emotions Jackino experienced during the story and while writing the song.
Whatever manner in which you decide to listen to the album I believe most listeners would find the experience rewarding and not regret investing time and money into discovering Paul Jackino. A great way to get an introduction to Jackino before purchasing the album would be to visit his website. The songs that didn't make it onto the album can be listened to at pauljackino.com.
