Chiefs Into Win Column In Convincing Fashion
posted 06/28/2009 by Scott Eddy

The Jamestown Chiefs have broken into the win column in convincing fashion by way of a 37-0 victory over the Southern Tier Diesel at Bradner Stadium in Olean on Saturday night.

The Chiefs, which fell 27-0 to Lyndonville last week in the first game of the team’s inaugural season as part of the Northeastern Football Alliance semi-pro football league, jumped out to an early advantage over the Diesel (0-2) and never looked back. Frank Vicary broke into the end zone early in the first quarter, scoring the first points in Chiefs team history to give the team a quick 7-0 lead. Jamestown padded its advantage throughout the first half, taking a 25-0 advantage into halftime.

Jamestown continued to pound the Diesel throughout the game behind strong performances from Vicary, 14 carries for 165 yards and two touchdowns, and James Dickey, 17 carries for 150 yards and three scores, on the ground. In all, Jamestown gained 335 yards on the ground, running at will throughout the game. With the strong running attack, quarterback Shawn Fink attempted only eight passes, completing six for 109 yards. Josh Perry and Henry Leeper each had two receptions.

Vicary led the team in tackles with 12, including one sack, while Josh Benson
added 11 tackles on the night. Mathew Lindstrom finished with 1.5 sacks.

The Chiefs (1-1) will take a bye for the Fourth of July weekend before returning to action against the Buffalo Gladiators on Saturday, July 11 at UB Stadium.
