YWCA Jamestown holds 122nd Annual Meeting

On January 24, 2011 La'Scala Restaurant hosted the YWCA Jamestown's 122nd Annual Meeting. Board members, staff, members, and YWCA guests enjoyed an option of broiled haddock, pasta primavera, and chicken parmigiana. After dinner guests were introduced to incoming board members, while saying goodbye to a few long term members.

Incoming Board of Directors members: Rosary Kolivas, Elizabeth Shepherd, Tess Kerzner, Michele Compton, Karen Bohall, and Shelly Cooper; as well as new trustee: Marcia Bliss.

Rosary Kolivas has been the Executive Director of the Jamestown Community Learning Council for 21 years. She has been the Special Presenter for Family Literacy Initiatives - National Community Education Association (1994, 1995) and the recipient of National Effective Parenting Information for Children - Heroes for Children and Families (1996). Rosary has served on the Chautauqua Opportunities Board of Directors, Chautauqua Educational Opportunities Committee, Chautauqua area Girl Scouts Council, Head Start Policy Council, Chautauqua Striders, Family Services, Literacy volunteers, Jamestown After School Initiative, and JCC President's Round Table.

Elizabeth Shepherd is a retired teacher. She graduated from SUNY Geneseo and West Virginia University. She is President of the Jamestown Garden Club, past-President of the Women's Club of Lakewood, Board member of the Lakewood Memorial Library and member of CRECHE.

Tess Kerzner earned a Masters Degree in Counseling Education at St. Bonaventure University, and a second Masters in Social Work at the University at Buffalo. She has worked for the Social Security Administration for 12 years in both Oswego and Jamestown; worked for WCA Hospital as both a Drug and Alcohol, and Mental Health Counselor for seven years; and currently works for The Resource Center (TRC) as the Coordinator for TRC Children's Services. She is an adjunct professor at Jamestown Community College and has taught Hatha Yoga at the school for the past 17 years. Tess is also a Board Member for the Jamestown Kiwanians.

Michele Compton is currently the Vice-President Branch Manager at Key Bank. She has recently served a six-year term on the YWCA Board of Directors. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Westminster College and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Penn State University. She resides in Bemus Point with her husband Scott. In addition to the YWCA, Michele is a member of the American Association of University Women, The Resource Center Foundation Finance Committee, and the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency Loan Review Committee.

Karen L. Bohall has worked at WCA Hospital since1983 and currently holds the position of Director of Human Resources. She is a member of Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) and active in the local Pennsylvania/New York chapter as well as a member of the class of 2010 Chautauqua Leadership Network.

Shelly Cooper has been employed as the Business Manager of Hanson Sign Companies for five years. She lives in Lakewood and enjoys golfing, home remodeling projects, boating, reading and all sorts of crafts.

Marcia Bliss is a Certified Public Accountant with her own practice in Jamestown. She has graduate degrees in taxation, business and finance. She is on the Board of Directors of the TRC Foundation, Chautauqua Connections, and the Chautauqua County Child Advocacy Program. She served as a member of the Finance Committee of the Resource Center and an active member of the Zonta Club of Jamestown - where she serves on the board of District 4 Zonta International.

YWCA Jamestown would like to thank outgoing YWCA Board members for their service: Sally Martinez, Norma DeJoy, Peg Cornell, Mary Dwaileebe, Sally Martinez, and Leah Gustafson.
