Jamestown
First incorporated as a village (1827) and later as a city (1889), Jamestown is the largest municipality in Chautauqua County, located at the outlet of Chautauqua Lake. Known as the "Pearl City," Jamestown has been a center for the manufacture of wood products such as furniture as well as a major producer of mattresses. Although many of these industries have migrated away from the area in recent times, Jamestown still retains a few large manufacturing plants for various multinational corporations.
