This town of Poland community is one of the oldest in the south county. Dr. Thomas R. Kennedy built "Kennedy's Mills" in 1805 to capitalize on the virgin forests found throughout the area. Lumbering remained the primary occupation in the area for much of the century, until agriculture took over in the early 1900s. Kennedy remains a busy hamlet, primarily because it sits at the western junction of Route 62 and NY Route 394.
