JAMESTOWN, NY – The Audubon Center and Sanctuary will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 8, but visitors are welcome to walk the trails or view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable bald eagle, from dawn until dusk.
Liberty has been at the Center since June, 2002. She was found in Washington State with an infected cut on her left wing and spent a year in rehabilitation.
While the hope was that she could return to the wild, the muscle damage in her wing prevents her from flying well enough to hunt. She now lives at the Audubon Sanctuary under the care of a dedicated crew of volunteers.
Liberty can fly short distances within her outdoor enclosure behind the Nature Center building.
The Audubon Center and Sanctuary is at 1600 Riverside Road, off Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Normal hours are 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. daily, Sundays 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. The trails and eagle viewing are open dawn to dusk daily.
